Kevin Kunkel is a certified Massage Therapist, Structural IntegrationTherapist, and certified in the Hakomi Techniques for body workers. Kevin’s work is grounded in a respect of the inner wisdom of each individual and the essential partnership of the body and mind. He sees his role as helping an individual have key experiences that open a new realm of awareness and thus a new level of clarity and healing. Hence, even when working on relieving low back pain or a week’s worth of stress, the overriding goal is to empower the individual to gain a new depth of body/mind awareness. In this way, detrimental, non-serving habits are let go and a new way of harmonious well-being is allowed.Kevin is also certified in Structural Integration (similar to the 10 steps of Rolfing where deep myofascial releases are used to increase well-being by improving one’s structural integrity) , and in the Hakomi Techniques for Body Workers. hakomi is a body-mind approach to bodywork that is based on five principals that have influenced all of Kevin’s work; the locus of healing sits within the client; nonviolence to how the body naturally wants to unfold and heal; mindfulness to the totality of one’s present experience; seeing the body and mind as constantly interacting and influencing each other; and re-establishing healthy communicatio between the body and mind via the practice of being present.
In addition, Kevin’s modalities include Thai yoga massage, use of Shiatsu points and Reflexology, Master’s Method of Psychophysical re-education, Reiki, and his own, intuitive energy and bodywork. He integrates his massage with the medical, nutritional, psychotherapy and acupunture expertise of clinicians available to him at the Akasha Center. For further information on any of the modalities and how they may benefit your specific situation, please contact Kevin.
